I know DVT is a sponser here and has been a great help to me and questions I've had and I will be sending my reels to him when the time comes. However people always talk about buying a new reel and the thing is packed with grease. My question is if you send a reel back to an OEM for service do they generally send it back packed with grease like many of them sell new?

This myth about factories packing reels with grease, just isn't true....

Grease is used in some instances as a parts holder, in other instances it is use in the bearings, and other areas of the reel to protect from moisture during a long boat ride to the US, and storage at the distributors.

When a reel is sent back to the mfg. for a warrenty maintain/service the reels are cleaned and properly lubricated.

I'm sure here all of the service techs only use proper lubrication techniques....

I think I agree with you. Even though I've seen plenty of stories the reels I own and opened have proved otherwise.

The last reels I opened 3 patriarch xt's,revo mgx, gen 1 premier, gen 3 premier and team lews all very clean and properly lubed.

I'm sure it does happen from time to time but I think a lot of it is blown out of proportion.
