Anyone Using Veritas Rods For Pitching

Featured Replies

Before buying a couple, just wanted to know if any of you have used the Veritas for pitching jigs and plastics. Are you using medium/heavy or heavy action? Thanks for any info.

I am. I have two. My heavy cover pitching rod is the 7'11" Heavy Moderate Fast. It's not the best for casting as its stiff and heavy, but I bought it for pitching off docks and the deck. I love it. I run a Gen 2 STX with 50# braid and its like a Warn winch pulling a fish out of the flooded timber.

My other one is a Heavy Xtra Fast 7'. It's my shore pitching rod and I use it for the same as my 7'11" if needed, but it's a great casting rod as well for swim jigs. I run a Gen 2 STX with 30# braid. It will do everything my larger one will, winch etc but its more versatile.

I tried a MH Veritas for both applications and it was too light more me. I use 1/2 oz jigs and heavier 99.9% of the time. The MH felt way to overloaded.

I use a MH for soft plastics and it feels perfect. I even swung a 3.8lb into the boat, no prob. For jigs it feels a little front heavy if going more than a 1/2 oz. I'm using the micro guide one also. Excellent rods.

I'm doing fine with the 7'3" MH Veritas.  Not a bad rod, just that I'm transitioning everything over to custom built high end St.Croix SCV blanks (Legend and Legend Elite rods).  I just have a hard time putting the super sensative Legends down and picking up the Veritas.  Before I got into the SCV blanks though the Veritas was the cats MEOW for me.

The 6'9" MH/XF is the perfect bank fisher Flipping rod.

These things are pretty under rated so a MH is like a Heavy to me. I had a MH 7' for pitching plastics briefly. Gave it to my fiahing buddy, didnt like the feel or stiffness of it.

I use one but lately for jig fishing. Mine is MH as well and yes, it was too stiff for lighter applications such as soft plastics or even crankbaits. I use it for heavier jigs and it will definitely be my pitching/flipping rod when the water warms up and the fish move shallower.

Let me tell you, that white finish gets looks and compliments too. It's the first rod that my wife looked at and said "Wow, that's a pretty looking rod and reel" (it's paired with a white Abu Garcia Revo S).

Ive gotten a ton of compliments also as you have stated, its sure is a conversation piece. I keep telling my girl she'd be in trouble if I brought it out with me to the club one night :eyebrows:, the ladies would be swooning.

Try throwing some black and white reel grips on it. Sets it off perfectly
