Anyone Used The Shimano Crucial 6'8" Top Water Rod

Anyone have this? It's 6'8" medium with a medium fast tip. It's designed for top water.

I'd like to make this my dedicated top water rod for Pop R's etc. I have one Crucial and its pretty sweet. Just wanted to get some feedback first.

Thanks

That rod is really a one trick pony.  It's not a very good popper rod, it's borderline too soft for my preferences in that.  It's excellent for Sammy85 and 100, as well as Wake tails.  It's a very good prop-bait rod but I don't like it for 1/4 ounce poppers like Yellow Magic or Ricos.  Give me a medium Xfast for that any day.  More control and better recovery.

Don't you want a softer tip for a delayed hook set?

I find for myself that a medium/fast works best for poppers and other topwaters. The medium power offers enough bend to get the job done with the Vendetta rods that I use. The rest is up to me timing to bite with the hookset.

I have tried to use softer tips and there is almost too much whip, but I could see how that would help someone that loves to react as soon as they see the bite.

For me, medium action and mono line is a good match.

Thanks. I run braid on my top water rig now so it might fit what I need

No, it has nothing to do with tip, everything to do with taper of the blank.  Faster blank, faster recovery time, in turn this allows me to move the bait faster back to back.  It also allows me to have much more direct contact with  quicker snaps and more variety in working the bait.
