Help Me Pick A Top Water Rod

Featured Replies

I had my mind set on a medium 6'8" Crucial but am wanting to explore other options.

Here are my uses for this. 1/4-1/2 oz Poprs, small jerk minnows, torpedoes etc.

Needs to be a casting rod, light weight, shorter handle as its a topwater only, and no longer than 6'8".

I'd like to stay in the 150 range if possible. I will more than likely be using 30# braid only if that makes a difference.

And lastly if you would, let me know why you use it.

Thanks

If you can find one, the Cumara reaction 6'3" medium is sweet for smaller topwaters.

I know these are touted as Smallmouth rods but the green bass don't really know the difference.

And for the price, you really get a whole lot of rod.

That's a bit outta my budget. Thanks though

Not necessarily out of that range if you are ok with it not being new. I grabbed mine off the used rod rack at a local shop for about $125.

I use the new Clarus 6' 8" crankbait rod for topwaters in M/F with 15lb big game. It is very light and has a surprising amount of power. I have a Gen3 Revo STX on it.

At the risk of joining the LGMouthGambler school of Shimano pimping, Shimano's Compre has a 6'8" M/F for a mere $99 and it is light with a short butt. Why? I have to admit that I own two Compre rods and I love them. Are they the best? Personal preference. Are they pretty good for the money? In my humble opinion, yes.

I may get raked over the coals but I would buy a cheaper rod for topwater as long as it will load and throw small lures well. Topwater is reaction more or less. Also I personally use a shorter rod and I remember u saying in posts before that u like long rods. I like 6'3 or 6'6' I feel I can work the baits better. So having said all that look at the vendetta 2 in 6'3" m/f, or if u must spend more money than go with the fenwick mentioned above in 6'3".
