Chatterbait blade getting stuck

Featured Replies

Been noticing that the blades on my chatterbaits have been getting stuck (sort of turned down on the eye of the jighead).  Not sure if it's due to the paint chipping in that area or just not enough of a bore in the blade itself.  Has anyone seen this?

How about the booyah version or the SK version.  I may just put an order in for a few of those Karu vibrashocks, as it looks like the design would eliminate that problem.

I've been using the Strike King Pure Poison and haven't had this issue. I haven't used them very much so I can't say for sure.

I also have the Sk pure poision, that's the only brand I use. If the blade is getting stuck, it may be the following.

1..the oval ring may be getting debris caught on it, or in between the slot on the blad.

2..Your line may be the culprit, make sure when you tie your knot that you trim the tag end close, and make sure there's no line in bewteen the split ring.

I find that when I cast out, once the bait hits the water, I give a smooth pull on the rod to get the lure into action, rather than start cranking, you will feel the blade flutter big time. Then start your retrieve.

When I use the Gman brand I replace the snap-lock on the blade with one about 2 sizes up. It wont bend like the original. Hope this helps. It sure cant hurt! I had a hard time finding one that fit, so take a lure in with you.

I haven't experienced that with any of the Chatterbaits I have. Thanks for posting about it. It sounds line the hole in the blade at the hook eye connection is too small or the plating/coloring on the hook eye is too thick.

Thanks folks.  I agree with the last post, that the cause on this particular bait is too small a hole, combined with paint chipping on the eye of the jig.  I guess I can remedy it, just don't like when a brand new bait has issues.

Maybe just an excuse to buy some more stuff...bait monkey is strong, and some of those vibrashock colors are cool.

Musta got a bad one, cuz I have at least 6 of the Pure poision baits, and none of them stick. I would return it and get a replacement.
