I bought some fat ikas today and was wondering are they a decent bait for spring fishing, the water is warming up we have had a couple of days in the 70's to low 80's.

also have read use light line and rig it backwards is that a good idea right now?

well i use baitcaster and 12 lb line with 5/0 owner twistlock xxx wire

Ika's work anytime...Light line isn't nessesary, alot of us use 10 lb..and fish it weightless, upside down..The presentation is the key..

ive got 8lb on my spinnin real, Medium rod should that be ok?

Should be fine..just keep an eye on your line..the bite is usually very subtle..I try to keep my index finger on the line to detect bites..

Yes they work. This fish was the first time I caught one on a Ika, they usually pick it up and you can see the line move and I just loaded up the rod with there weight.
