Anyone have the Navionics app for their iphone or ipad?  is it worth the $10 to study maps at home?  Seems like a really good deal to me.

$10 isn't bad. I was just looking at it on my iPad, the HD version is $50!

I'd like to know if my local reservoirs are in the database before I buy.

I have it loaded on my IPAD, it's fine and I use it when I'm looking for possible areas to fish prior to a tourney. I don't think it's as good as what I have on my locator, but it does have its uses.

I have it and I think it's totally worth it. It uses the same topographical data as the store bought navigation systems. It's just super nice to have it on the phone cause you have your phone with you all the time.

You can even use it ice fishing and mark spots to come back to. The best thing is that if there is a map update, it's easy to do because you just update through the App Store. I bet it's a pain to update traditional gps systems, not to mention you probably have to pay for the update.

It's not a fish finder/ depth finder of course but it perfectly tells you where you are, how far to go to a way point, miles per hour or nautical miles per hour and other nice features.

One more thing, because you bought it in the App Store, if you ever upgrade to a newer iPhone you automatically get a performance boost without having to re-buy the software. Just redownload on your newer beast phone and off you go.

If you don't mind, so on the North American version, can you look up a specific lake or reservoir in order to see if it has a topographic map? Reason I ask, the reservoirs I fish don't have any topo maps - well, I bought one from the ranger station, but it wasn't very helpful... So I was looking to see if Navionics was every lake everywhere (exception of private ponds and stuff, I'd assume).

Same thing for big bethel Rez. Shows a body of water but no depth contour.

I have this ap as well.  I think I'm going to buy a mount to mount my phone on the boat and use this as my GPS.  It also tracks your path for the day and how far you went.  It will tell you how many gallons you'll burn going to waypoints.  I don't know how many Gallons per hour I burn so I don't know what to put in there or how to figure that out.

I just bought the app. Considering that most paper maps are $10/ a piece, the app is a total bargain. I have it for iPad and it's awesome. I will use it for studying the day/night before a trip.

Bummer, but thanks. You'd figure with all the engineers living in this area that SOMEone would have done a full topo of these reservoirs by now...

So, i went to download it on my iPad, it is a lot more money on it versus my iPhone, $10 vs $50.  Does anyone run the iPhone version on their iPad, if so how does it look?

I run the iPhone version on iPad. I didn't even realize there was an iPad version! The version looks kind of funky at first, but then you can zoom the screen in to fit the full iPad pannel. The graphics on the iPad version may be better, but I think the iPhone version should be just fine. I don't have any complaints.

Well think of it like this. Will the iPad version work for the iPhone? If not you're screwed but if you buy the iPhone one at least you know that you can use it on the iPad. Anyone want to confirm if it works both ways?
