Unfortunately, I have read too many fishing mags...and purchased most of the lures mentioned! Lol!  I am currently fishing from the bank and taking all of this stuff has drained the fun out of fishing.  I fish mostly Claytor lake (cool, clear deep) and New River. 

I would like to return to just a few lures...until I can get a boat. I LOVE to fish spinnerbaits.  I also fish soft jerkbaits, and Sencos.  I sometimes split-shot small robo worms, etc. These are for the lake.

In the river I fish tubes, sekos, top water baits, etc....

Any suggestions on what I REALLY need to accomplish these task. Does this list look OK?  Can it be further simplified? 

BTW, I am using mostly medium spinning tackle (Shimono) from the bank.  Usually, two rods...One for spinner baits, etc. and one for senkos....

when i bank fish i use one of those Berkley strap on tackle boxes that has a belt that goes around your waist. I also carry two rods with me one for fast moving lures (spinner baits,crank baits etc) and one for slow moving plastics (worms, jigs crawdads etc.) I usually carry a good selection of lures in my trunk so when i pull up to a pond or lake I'm prepared for whatever i might need . I usually throw a couple rattle traps in my tackle box a couple spinner baits some 4" senkos some 4"Berkley power worms and a couple jigs ,that i would think would cover a lot of bases .I like to keep a small but diverse selection of lures in my trunk so i am prepared for any weather or water condition. 

Fish what you are comfortable with. Stay with the things you like, keep your equipment in a small bag you can carry on your shoulder and have fun. I fished that way for many years and never had more fun.

I think, that the list you want to do, is realy personal, cause you know your fishing places, and what you feel confortable to fish, for long time I made an statisitical control of the prefered colors in this forum talking about plastics are 1. Red Shad, 2. Watermelon seed in all the varieties, 3. Green Pumpkin, 4. blacks (in shapes you want) 5. june bug. (not necesarely in that order) the shape I'll try senkos, baby brush hogs or 6" lizards, and the worm you feel more confidence. If you don't like any of them or you feel that any different colour is better and work for you, is your choice. If i only need to carry 3 cranks I'll carry a CD Rapala silver 9, a Shad Rap, Shad Color in 9 and lipless crank in gold or blue shinner. your weapons are spinnerbaits, you choose them.

But if I really want to make an small selection of lures to go fishing, i would ask my wife.

If all you brought are your favorite color and brand tubes,spinnerbaits,senkos  and jerkbaits you will be set.For what you mentioned Just bring yourself 2 packs of each and a small plano box with just enough jerkbaits,topwater and crankbaits. You can get all that in a very small backpack or something with no problem.

ya you cant go wrong with a nice spinner bait or if there is lily pads or weeds i love to use a worm texas rigged

Currently I too fish from the lake, Although I hope to buy a boat soon!. But I hate using old school tackle boxes, I use Plano stowaway trays and load the into a backpack, Carry my rods and stay mobile, Moving from spot to spot trying to get a bite, The trays are for terminal stuff, And 2 more or so for hard lures. Then I keep a fanny pack filled with soft plastics in there original bag. I leave in the inside of the pack on top of my trays. Oh and also I recommend buying a cheap tackle bag so you can get a bunch of trays easily And also keep your tackle together if you use the backpack for other things.

A good sized backpack works for me..I have everything from worms to 8" swimbaits in mine..weighs about 35-40 lbs.. ;D I carry from 3 to 5 rods, depending on where I'm fishing.

To simplify, carry what catches fish for you. I oth, totally over do it..

This is a good topic since many of us fish from the banks as well.  Most of my time recently has been from the banks and so I have had to consider this very question a lot recently.  The first thing i did was find a large backpack to carry things easily and not have to use my hands to hold anything but the rods.  I keep 5 trays in the backpack at all times, and decide which 5 trays to take depending on what waters I am fishing.  When I am bank fishing, it usually goes something like this:

1. terminal tackle

2. jigs and trailers

3. creature baits(Brush hogs, Crawdads, Lizards, etc.)

4. worms

5. shallow cranks (1'-10')

I carry two rods generally:

MH with a 5.1 retrieve for worms and jigs and creatures

M with a 6.3 (I think) retrieve for cranks, swim jigs, chatterbaits, etc.

I keep a small digital camera in the side pouch for photos

Thanks for the input everyone.  I also carry a small backpack with everything inside.  I went out a while back with just a bag of plastics though and had a blast! Not having to "lug" everything around allowed me to enjoy myself so much more...

That's what got me thinking about ways to "simplify" my tackle, etc.  I am esp. concerned with using lures that can be fished multiple ways (Senkos, etc).  That eliminates some of the stuff I am having to carry.  I would like to carry three to four lure types at a time in a small waist pack...

A fly fishing vest works well for me when i bank fish. Just look for one with the larger pockets, to hold small plano boxs.
