If the wind is blowing in from the east stay home.

Otherwise....

Shad colored crankbaits

Crawfish colored crankbaits

Spinnerbaits

Carolina rig

Lipless Cranks

Pointers

Colors......

Cranks - shad and crawfish

Spinnerbaits - chart/white

Carolina rig - green pumpkin or green pumpkin watermealon candy

Lipless cranks - Silver with black or blue back

Pointers - Any colors you want

Depth...

Throw cranks at anything and everywhere and if necessary throw one that dives deeper than the bottom so that it will stir up the mud

Technique...

You have to put the bait in front of the bass so they do not have to move far to eat it.

Sometimes retrieve slow and other times fast

Where to fish....

Try backs of creeks where the water warms up the fastest

Main river points and creek mouths

Any wood or strucuture you can find

Docks, piers and boat houses

Always try to find the cleanest water, usually in the creeks

Anything else....

You can throw a drop shot

You can throw a jig and pig

Bait colors your choice

Water temperature...

Check the water temperature to decide where they are on their movement to spawn

Dogwoods have not started to blossom so they are probably still deep or sitting next to any structure they can find

Tides....

Always check the tides on the Chick and James and go with as much fallng tide as possible

Run up to Rock-A-Hock and fish the pads and then start down river or hit the creeks and fish the falling tide

Needle Nose Pliers...

Always remember your needle nose pliers

Chick Lake...

If you are fishing Chick Lake anything goes as long as you use the baits and techniques mentioned above.

Good luck and let us have a good report.

Great info! The lake has been a tough place for me, and a friend and I will be hiting Ed Allen's tomorrow morning. C-rigs, DS, SH, and a few pointers tied on. Big place for me as a boat renter, but I printed out a map of the main lake and some major creek arms this morning- that should help to manage the size of the lake.

Sunday was pretty tough on the Chick. Water was 42 or so and pretty stained. Caught one Pickerel-bout 19"- on a swimmin image in chartruse, other than that just a couple sunburnt foreheads...Did see a 21 inch LM caught around 1pm near Eagles Landing (guys were Crappie fishing live minnows), but not on our boat.
