Navionics Chip Vs Fishing Hot Spots Pro

Featured Replies

Happy Friday folks!

I have been thinking about getting a chip for my Lowrance Elite 5 DSI this winter, and was wondering if anyone would share their experiences with them. I'm in Kennebec County in Maine, (Central Maine area) and would like information on lakes that I am going to actually fish.

I have looked at the list of lakes of Fishing hot spots pro 2013, and it has a very good amount of bodies of water that I'd fish. Some are missing that I thought would be there though.

I know that I have much to learn about the waters that I fish, but having some contour lines to start with will certainly help.

Thanks,

Jeff

In my opinion its a matter of how you are going to use your maps.  For example, I have navionics on my HDS on my console because it provides me shaded depth contours which help me navigate the lake a high speed.  I have fishing hotspots on my bow because it provides me more detail and information regarding cover etc.

Well,

I'm looking at it to be able to find contours and drop offs. Some tournaments I may not be able to pre-fish this year if it's early on, and don't have the day off. At least knowing drop offs, and where current may be would be helpful on unfamiliar waters.

I have an HDS 7 with insight and an Elite 5 with Hot Spots pro. for natural weedy lakes in my area I actually prefer the Hot Spots. the Insight is better on the larger popular lakes.

I bought a navionics premium hotmaps chip for my elite7hdi. The chip was defective and after 2 weeks of unanswered emails and extended phone calls i finally got aneew one shipped out. Needless to say i am not impressed with navionics customer service what so ever. Hopefully this chip works...

CB there is a software issue with the Elite 7 from Lowrance which should correct any issues with Navionics chip, the Elite couldn't read the map correctly The Navionics maps are awesome
