Help Me Pick Out My Birthday Gift

Featured Replies

Ok, so I trun 16 on friday, and my dad is taking me to BPS to spend $100 on whatever I want. I don't really need a new rod or reel, I just got one last week. So what are your suggestions of things I should get? Here's some of my ideas

-New griffin spider vise

-Put the money towards saving up for an angler kyak

-Waders

-New tackle Bag

But that's the issue, I don't really know what to get. What are some good things to have that you wouldn't usually spend your money on?

If you have transportation, the angler kayak would be awesome.  It's not as expensive as a boat and it would expand your potential fishing spots :D  Waders are also really nice too when you need to fish areas that casting from the bank just doesn't cut it.

Geat advice thanks. I could use my dads s.u.v. From my hookup at dunhams I could get a sit on angler kyak for $350.

Yeah id go for the kayak also

I vote to save up for the kayak.

It depends on what you fish more of......if moving water like rivers or larger bodies of water I would go with a kayak.  If fishing smaller bodies of water like ponds and what not, I would seriously look into one of those tube things as well.  I have no experience with either, as I simply wade fish in shorts, but just my .02 for how you could possibly look at it as well.

I see you're in Michigan.  You'll want breathable waders, even if you get a kayak.  I'd start there.

Thanks for all the help guys! I fish a lot of rivers, small ponds sometimes, and lake st. Clair if that helps.. I usually wade in shorts also.

Of those options I would go for the kayak. Me personally though, I am turning 16 on Thursday and going to bps on Sunday to buy another chronarch 200e7.

No transportation = save up for transportation. Patience is a virtue, it'll pay off in the end

For the kyak what model what you recomend? I would get an ascend, the $500 models. But which one? Length? Sit on or in?

  • Super User

Sit on top is my general recommendation.  The Ascend is a good starter boat.

If your going to paddle long distances, all else being equal, the 12 will be easier and track better.  If you're going to be in tight quarters, like small creeks, then I'd go with the 10.

I'd go for Kayak too!  I'd probably go 12ft because of the option to go farther.  Sometimes public access to the honey hole is further up and you have to paddle to the area.

I would not anchor in strong current, it could pull the boat under.  But in soft water, it's fine.  A better option in strong current is a stake out pole, passed through a scupper hole, and driven into the bottom.
