Every time I cast my 1 oz Mattlures Baby Bass swimbait it makes a huge splash when it hits the water. Do you think the splash will spook trophy bass and cause them to swim away? If so, what can I do to prevent this problem?

A little splash is good because you want the fishes attention. Just to big of a splash will spook a bass unless it is aggressive.

Do you think that every time a trout, or any other smaller fish jumps (or heck, even 20 lb Carp !) jumps, it scares bass ???

I think maybe if your talking about a runt of a bass, which has to worry about a great big trophy bass eating it for breakfast, shoot yea' ! A splash might scare it. On the other hand, I think the most a splash from a swimbait might do, is annoy a trophy bass which isn't hungry, or, get it's attention if it is !

Let the rubber rain down my friend! I somtimes rainbow cast on purpose, just to get more splash. Does it mean more fish...probably not, but its fun!

haha i completely agree with you fourbizzle, i do that every so often, cast as high as i can when the fishing is slow and watch the lure crash into the water, it kinda focuses me in a wierd way and i proceed to fish with a new determination and put the frustration behind me

I have had a big fish eat my swimbait as it hit the water at least 3 times that I distinctly remember. Each time the bait made a big splash and my spool kept taking line. It always takes me a second to realize whats going on. Not only do I not care about making a big splash I have the advantage of watching guys like Mike Long and Butch Brown when they happen to be at "MY" lakes. The only time I have seen Mike not making a splash is when he was pitching to the shore under and along trees. he was able to lay the bait in there from about 50yrds without making a splash using a side arm cast. Every other time he is throwing the bait extremly far and making a big splash. I believe it only spooks the fish if they are already aware of you and are nervous to begin with. Also I think off my baby bass as a tiny bait. To me it barley makes a splash. You should see the splash a 10 inch 9oz trout swimbait makes and it gets bit.

IMO, the splash isn't a problem but the shadow the bait casts over the water before it lands may spook a Bass as "death comes from above" in the Bass's brain.
