When using braid to fluorocarbon where do you put the knot on baitcasting reels on the spool or before the reel? Same question for spinning reels also.

Huh?  You tie leader onto the end of the braid.  How long is a personal preference.  I generally use a leader that is about 6' long, and retie when it gets down to about 18".

I tie the flouro at such a point that the knot never goes through the guides on the rod.  I generally start with a 6' leader so that I can retie several times if needed.

Wouldn't you need to tie a shorter leader?  Seems like 6' is lot of slack to whipping around to cast with?

 

Typically I will tie a 2-3ft leader that provides me plenty of length to retie a few times, and it's short enough not to reel it through the guides to cast.
