fur vs silicon

Featured Replies

Which do you prefer?

i generally have more luck with the silicon jigs. the fur ones get gunked up and the fur sticks together.

Fur for smallmouths.

Silicone and other plastics for largemouth.

Just my two-cents.  ;)

There are days silicone is the way to go

There are days living rubber is the way to go

There are days hair is the way to go

There are days marabou is the way to go

Like everything else in this little universe we call fishing there are a bunch of variables that make your bait selection better for one day and s*y for the next, so you have to be prepared, it ain 't gonna hurt you to have a few of each, in the worst case one day you use one type and the other just go for a free ride.

You say hair ( fur ) sticks together, nope, not realy, it 's sticks together wet and out of the water, in the water the story is different.

no i mean it sticks together dry in my tackle box. it gets all gunky and matted. kinda like dirty dog hair.

Those are nice. They are fished more like a traditional jig though. A true hair jig, maribou or bucktail, I feel is a more cold water bait. Here in the Northeast I fish them from ice out until the spawn, then they go away until late fall. Hair jigs to me are a more finesse approach for rock, rock flats, ponts and some deep fishing. Skirted jigs are an all year jig for heavier structure and cover, grass, wood, etc.
