Frogs

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever added rattles or weight inside a frog like a broneye? I am fishing the Potomac River in June and thought it might help bass locate the frog ontop of the heavy grass.

I don't know if rattles would make that much of a difference, but I have heard of breaking off pieces of plastic worms and shoving them inside the frog to give it more weight on the cast, but still alloow it to ride on top of the water.  Have always wanted to try this and just never got "a round tuit"

I do add rattles I take off jigs sometimes. No more than 2,you don't want anything getting in the way of the frog compressing. I use Scumfrogs because they are the most easily compressed, but also the lightest and toughest to cast..you need a good baitcaster. Daiwa Sol,or Shimano Chronarch etc,,something with a light spool.

I haven't tried it yet but I have lots of action on regular frogs.

I put a carolina rig bead and a small brass nut in one. I went and fished it today and ntoiced that the back part sat lower in the water and displaced more water than the one with nothing in it. Didn't catch anything on either frog so I guess only time will tell

That's a good idea. I might have to try that this summer. The lily pads are already growing thick on the Potomac, now we just have to wait for the grass to emerge.

Snag Proof makes a frog box kit that is absolutely amazing. They have everything in there to modify your frogs. Tools to help you add skirt colors, markers to color, rattles to add to your frogs, and more. Check it out, that's where I got my rattles for all my frogs.
