Rapala X Rap Shad

Featured Replies

I was thinking about picking a couple of these up a up after catchin one on a normal x rap [purple color]on my second cast.

For those who have used these- how well do they work? How do you fish them and what colors and sizes have been productive for you?

LOVE the XRAP Shads!  I use the shallow running versions.  You work them just like you would the regular XRAP, also you can fish them like a crankbait as well.  I have used both sizes and caught fish on both.  The most successful color I have used was the Purple Ghost color, its light purple on top with a chartreuse center with a slightly opaque shell.  I have caught a bunch of bass off their beds with this lure and color pattern. I would recommend getting a couple few to try out. The other color that has worked for me is the Olive Shad.  Hope I helped you decide! Good Luck!

They are a great lure. Good for casting and trolling. I have caught largemouth, smallmouth, walleye and pike on them. My most productive colors are ghost and yellow perch.

I love the whole XRap line of lures. The Shads are really good, I like the shallow version as a jerkbait for when fish are busting smaller shad on top, or as a river lure, or really any time I'm fishing shallow. The deeper versions I use like any other crankbait, but I have had success with reeling it in, then twitching it near a specific piece of cover, like a jerkbait, in cooler water. Colors? I like that Purple in clear water, but really all the colors are good. :(

I really like these baits and the fish seem to as well. Also, they are on sale this week at Dick's sporting goods if you have one near by.

I've had luck on the purple albino one.
