I would recommend a fast tip.  The moderate fast maybe too soft for a jig  for a hook set, but who knows if it is adequate enough for as I do not own one.

i wouldnt recommend that for jigs, you want a fast or extra fast tip for jigs to be able to get a good solid hookset. that rod would be good for rattle traps, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwaters though

take a look at the *** *** rods, i own a few and love them.. there $10 more than the fenwick but totally worth it, there are TONS of positive reviews on them. there are several members on here that own them now and love them. the 7'1 or 7'3 Mh would make a perfect jig rod for you.

I owned and used one for many years, it is a fine jig rod.

Can I still get a good hook set with the MF tip?

Yes. Use low stretch line, and it will be fine. The moderate fast rating on that rod is misleading, it's not whippy at all. It has a pretty stout blank, and if anything the MF tip on it is a blessing in disguise. It offers a little protection to the line when you lay the wood to them, but still has more than enough power to send the hook home.
