Burnt out on Senkos/Ikas, thoughts on the yamamoto kreatures and rant?

Featured Replies

Hey all, its been a while since i posted..anyhow been plugging along with senkos/ikas the last couple years, almost exclusively..

so Im going to make the dramatic jump to the kreature,

Ive had issues with the IKA's hooking up, and they seem too taught on even a ewg 5/0 hook..I am never satisfied with the profile on the hook even though i get alot of takes(and misses), has anyone tried the ikas with more of a wire hook?

Im guessing i can swim the kreature more??

I don't care for the creature much. On the Ika I use a 4/0 owner wide gap plus. Best hook I've used for it. yes it's a thick wire hook but the gap is higher than the line tie and the owner knife point goes through bone like butter.

i been using the ikas on the gama 5/0 ewg "monster" hooks..maybe thats my trouble.

What dont you like about the kreature? Ive never fished one, i did order some tho.

i mainly fish small ponds in the northeast, some are very heavily pressured, alot of guys are throwing senkos or knockoffs of senkos, so im trying to give the fish a different look.

Although others will surely argue I just don't like the action of it.To me it's like dragging a piece of scum or weeds through the water.Imo theres a million creature types on the market big and small and many are far superior to the yammy. Not to mention the one fish one bait thing... Not saying I don't use the heck out of yamamoto baits, just not that one.

I am actually kinda surprised one of those 5/0 monster hooks you mentioned even fits the Ika. A 4/0 pretty much goes end to end. The monsters are a very heavy wire hook too.Maybe thats the problem I don't know but I've always used the owner since it has maximum gap for such a thick stubby bait. I am also using braid and a med heavy rod. I can drive a hook through a rock if I need to. I have never fished an ika on mono so if you are then maybe someone else will chime in as well. Good luck. :(

they dont fit exactly, the ika get distended and stretched ive tried very briefly nose hooking them.

im using yozuri reg hybrid in 10lb and 14lb fireline on another rod.

i havent used them exclusively on the gamas, ive tried alot of different hooks,it seems some are too short, too narrow..as like the monster..just too big.

Ill have to give those owners a try in the 4/0

You could also try bending your wide-gap hook so that the point is not in-line with the eye.  That should improve your hook-ups.

For the Ika, I do pretty well all of the 4/0 EWG hooks I've tried.

BTW, greetings from a little bit east of the Berkshires :(

Same for me, have tried other hooks, but they aren't the same. There shouldn't be a hook up problem wit these. I have hooked fish that were hookes as far as I could cast...You really need a good hook, and be a line watcher.. :(

Hey Lao, im up in clarksburg

:(

what are your thoughts on nose hooking them?

or..alternately...a non fat ika..(like those 3")

I rig my Ika's with Gammy 4/0 EWG hooks, and they work beautifully.  I rarely miss now that I've got the correct hook in there.  I love that bait!
