Abu Garcia

Featured Replies

Im looking at getting a new baitcast combo from gander and have been eyeing the abu garcia silver max combo and the abu pro max combo, and was just looking for your guys' input.

If i were you i would go on walmart.com and get the vendetta rod thats on sale for $29.99. Thats a lot better rod than the pro max or silver max. Then find a good reel to go with it. Pro max is a nice reel for its price and would make a nice combo if you dont have tons of money

I have 3 of the Silvermax combos.  I think they are pretty decent for the price. This will be their 2nd season in use and they have held up so far.

Any of the Max reels are good for the money, but I'd go with the Pro Max, since it has an aluminum frame. And x2 on getting the Vendetta on walmart.com for $30. Great deal on that rod.

Pro Max and Vendetta for me too! I have the Pro Max, it's super smooth casts well too; the drag is good as well.

Yes and Yes.  Have them both and love them.  Great rods for the price.  The Pro I use with a 7' MH for flipping/pitching mostly and the 2 Silvers I use for everything else (Power Fishing Related).

I'm curious how the pro max compares to the BPS Pro Qualifier. My local WM has a Pro Max lefty and I wanted to pick it up but is that the best choice for that price?

I believe all of the max reels are graphite framed.

Get the PQ, I think they are on sale right now.

You are correct, all of the Max reels are graphite-framed.  The Orra is Abu Garcia's least expensive aluminum low-profile reel.

I would never recommend a baitcast reel with a graphite frame.  Yes, there are many anglers using graphite-framed reels hard with no problems, but you are much more likely to get a lemon with a graphite reel.  The graphite baitcasters today are better than previous generations, but a metal frame is always stronger and more rigid than a graphite frame.

Ya graphite flexes way to much. When im reeling my pro max super fast, it will flex and start to click like the gears are stripping out. Not good lol

pq on sale now for 79.99,great reel for this price

how about the ardent evercast? it is on sale for $70

These guys are right. The Pro Max has a graphite frame. I got confused between the Pro and the Orra.
