I was wondering about this last night a I was planning my all day fishing trip for today. When going out chasing them early bass in the spring where the water temps are in the 40s what is the best time to go. It almost seems logical that the morning might not be as productive and waiting for warmer mid day temps might be better. What's the thoughts on this?

I'm with ya on that. Usually no rush to hit the water early when I'm out this time of year.

Yeah I'm taking my sweet time it's 8am already 53* out though I'm bout 15 minutes from where I'm gonna put the kayak in. I'm starting about half a mile upstream from Lake Ontario in a tributary going down to the mouth never fished it before its more of a exploration at this point. Have a few other spots I'm gonna hit later where I heard some one caught a smallmouth same type of spot it's a river where it meets the lake it's just a smaller lake loaded with smallies and large mouth for that matter. 20mph winds with gusts to 45 today so I'm staying in some protected areas from the winds.

I still find smallies more active in the early hours of the day, even this time of year.  Largemouth like it better later as the water warms.

That's true, the smallies do get moving earlier than the largemouth it seems.

Well it's 1003 iv caught two smallies one 3.3 the other 3 even an two gorgeous trout like super model trout lol.

I went out yesterday here in VT and "tried". It was a dead zone out there! Weird thing, I had a 2 min dream last night about me being out yesterday. As I was packing up to leav I saw a huge fish SMASH something on the top of the water but I couldnt get to it and I had to leave.

 

I must be more disappointed than I thought lol. You guys in NY have better temps in the water and outside.

Water temps are 41* I'm at 4 trout, 3 smallmouth, 1 northern pike all on a boohyah white spinner bait. Also posted from the water lol had to take a break got thirsty lol

I'm moving back home to Florida in a month but it's going to be 79 degrees on Thursday so I'm gonna give it one more shot.

I'm up here in North Carolina and on Friday night I caught 10 bass and 1 crappie. I was using a Strike king 2.5 in Gizzard shad. I caught fish until about 12:00am and went to sleep. And this morning around 9:00 I caught about a 2 pounder and 3 other small bass and a big crappie on a crankbait and a Rapala minnow. The temperature on Friday night was around 55 and the temperature this morning was around 47. The fish in this lake were super active. Caught 22 the entire trip which consisted of 2 days. Sorry to jack your thread but I just wanted to show that you can still catch them early in the morning or at night when it's a little cold.

Yeah the bite has died off now morning seemed like the time to be there I was seeing fish like crazy even when the fish finder went off I could look down and see fish going by for once it was actually marking fish. Towards the end it wasn't marking anything and I bought 2 pike quick so I left

Around here the bass are starting to move about 1PM. You can catch them earlier,but you have to work at it.

Exactly why I'm going today my ex wife is finally for the first time in almost 3 months taking our boys for a weekend and not just a few hours so I spent yesterday with my gf went to the bars with some friends and have been out on the water since 8am. I'm on my way home right now to change because I had to get in the water.........didn't fall in just got stuck lol

Very nice trout.  As for fishing times, I've caught a couple in the mornings but I've been having more luck in the afternoon/evening after it warms a bit.
