Ri Fishing Report

Featured Replies

I would like to start with thread about fishing the Rhode Island lakes. I hope this can be an on going thread about how fishing is going on the many lakes throughout the state. I have been doing some shore fishing without much luck. I am wondering how some you guys, who fish RI lakes, are doing?

I have fished Randall Pond, Stump Pond, and Meschanicutt Lake. All have not been productive. Thanks to all who contribute.

Not Rhode Island, but close by in MA.  Water temps are still cold on the Cape Ponds, 41 - 43 degrees.  Fought the wind today and hit two ponds, MashpeeWakeby and Ashumet. with a buddy.  Fished a total of maybe five hours from a boat.  Our catch, 1 perch, 1 large pickerel, and 1 decent smallmouth.  That's it.  Ten days ago, we tried MashpeeWakeby and caught four nice rainbow trout with bass baits.

The fish were quite lethargic.  We need some warm, sunny weather and things will pick up.

I went fishing this a few times last week with no luck, but i was in a tournament this weekend and even though the conditions were tough the fish were active. A lot of guys had good days using crankbaits. I caught mine using jerkbaits. Some big fish were caught including a 7.5 lbs largemouth. The water is still in the low 50's but the fish are starting to bite.

I was out fishing Breakheart pond today. The fishing is still slow, but I manged to catch a few including a nice 3lb. LMB. The only thing the bass were biting was a rage craw fished rage rig style.

Went today. The water seemed down a little. 3 of us in the kayaks. Total of 4 bass and 3 pickerel. Very nice place well secluded. Still too cold we did have a couple lost fish I think in the summer the pond could Be banging; dense weeds for cover. Nice jig, spinnerbaits, and buzz bait pond. The 4 LMB was caught on a baby bass color and black lizard.

I was at Indian lake on Sunday. The fishing was really tough. The weeds had yet to come up and the fish were right on shore. The fishing was slow all day until about 1:30. The bite picked up and a few LM were caught, including a 3.5 lb, and two 2lbs.

Headed out last night with a buddy to a small private pond in South County. Fished from about 5:30 - Dark... Ended up landing about a dozen fish, mostly on topwater, but a few on a spinnerbait.  Nothing real big at all, probably 2 lbs at the most. Definitely nice to get out and see the fish getting more active.

I fished Wilson's Reservoir 2x this past week. On both occasions the bass were biting. The 1st time I went out I caught 5 bass including a 5+ pounder. The 2nd time I caught 6 bass, but nothing over 2 lbs. I found all the fish shallow, but saw very few beds. The bass were mostly just prowling the shallow areas of the lake.

In the past few weeks I have been to Johnson's pond, Upper Slattersville, Breakheart pond and Meschanicutt Lake. The bass were very active on all the lakes except Slattersville. I caught  bass ranging from 3 1/2 lbs to little 10 inchers. The day I was on Johnson's the pond was giving up alot of bass and alot of big bass. The biggest of which was an 8 pounder. Also, there were a number of 6, 5 and 4 pounders caught, as well.

On most of the lakes I have been to the spawn seems to be over, and the bluegill and sunfish are on beds, or just finishing. Has anyone else in the area seen the same thing?
