Best Way To?

Featured Replies

Whats the best way to tie my line to the center spool on a baitcaster? Ive always tied a knot, but wanna find the proper way to do it because in the past the knot gets in the way when respooling my reel with new line.

What do you mean the knot gets in the way? Like it sticks up?

yea it sticks up in the way. messes up the spool, makes a hump over the middle sometimes. didn't know if that was normal or there was a better way to do it.

Ok, yea that's what i figured was going on... try this. Its kinda hard to explain but ill try my best. Take your spool off if you know how( gives you more room to work with) stick your line through the line guide and through the hole that you took you spool out through on the reel, then wrap the line 3-4 times around the spool, then tie a simple overhand knot, the first thing you do when you tie your shoelaces. Once its tight, you should be able to pull hard as you can and the knot wont budge, then trim tag end, place spool back in reel, place side cover on and fill her up. I've been doing this for years without any problems of knots coming loose or anything like that. And i like it cause the knot is small and doesn't inner fear with the line that's being spooled on... hope that helps. any questions about it ask me.

I've used electrical tape before. I normally just tie a knot like the guy above said.

^^^I use a really thin sliver of electrical tape laid long the width of the spool.

will def try that. thanks guys

I actually use a palomar knot when spooling new line on my reel. I pull the line so the knot is actually in the hole on the spool so it doesn't stick up. Works great, as I've never had any issue with line lay or anything.

With a ported spool,  you can work the know into a hole.
