Trig Question

Featured Replies

I know the general consensus on the trig is to use the lightest weight possible but my brother was out fishing me 2 to 1 at a pond the other day using popers and a small crank bait. Would using a heavier weight to make the bait drop faster get more reaction strikes or would that just kill the baits action and get me less strikes?

the answer to your question is yes. by putting a heavier weight you may get a better reaction bite, but at the same time it may just take the bait out of the strikezone faster than your current set up. if your brother is outfishing you with moving baits I would switch to a reaction style bait instead of a bottom hop bait like a t rig, if you still want to stay with the t-rig then try some yum f2 sent and maybe change up your colors a bit, you might get more bites.

If your brother is getting bites on moving baits, I'd put down the worm and tie on a crank or spinnerbait.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought about math.

I've never tried it, but Ish Monroe uses a technique when pitching to shallow cover with a 1.5oz weight. He says it stirs up the bottom and he was catching fish doing it. I think it's all just depends on the fish and place..

My first thoughts......

But in answer to your question, don't be a fool!  Use what is catching the fish!

Agreed, Tuckahoe Joe hit the nail on the head.

why didn't you join him? you didn't have poppers/cranks? pride? you were bored catching them on poppers/cranks and really wanted to get them to bite a MMA fighter?

Yeah I was expecting a math question too when I first saw the subject.

I probably would've followed suit like others have stated to a reaction bait if your brother was beating you.  Why would you not give them what they wanted?

I didnt join him with the cranks and poppers because this is the first year if fished the t-rig so im trying to get alot of practice with that. Ill try the heavier weight next time and if it doesnt help ill start chuckin the crancs and poppers.

i think we've all been there:  I didn't catch any/many fish that day b/c I was too busy "learning a new lure the fish didn't want".
