7'3 Heavy For Punching

Featured Replies

Going to dedicate a lot of time this summer on punching thick vegetations. I know many people prefer a 7'11 H rod but has anyone used a 7'3 H rod for punching? I found a local guy selling one for a really good deal and thought maybe if its good enough I should just go for it. Thoughts and opinion much appreciated and also if you think a 7'11 is better, why?

*** *** Black btw.

I use a 7'2 heavy and have no problems so i dont see why a 7'3 would have any

How heavy of cover? If its not extremely heavy cover it'll be ok. Once you get up to the thick stuff, longer and more moderate action rod is best suited. Control of fish but the most important the moderate action will help not snap your rod like a twig :)

Really thick and nasty up north in our natural lakes by summer.

Also forgot to mention but was thinking this be my double duty rod using it for frogs too.

I'm a HUGE fan of the *** series of rods.

However if its really that heavy I'd look @ the Phenix M1 series.  I have the 7'8 heavy and its stout and more sensitive than I'd expected.
