Is a fluke a good cold water bait? I bought a pack in white ice color with 4/0 EWG gammy hooks and was wondering if it would be a waste or not to try then out in this 44 degree water.

Can these catch smallies too?

they work fine in all water for me, the colder the water the slower i fish them,and only weightless. in water that is 44 degrees i would let it fall 10-15 seconds at a time and then give it a light twitch or two. i have also found that in cold water i can simply use a very slow steady retrieve and lethargic fish love the slow back and forth motion (if it is rigged properly, perfectly straight on the hook). And they also work great with smallies, especially the Jr's. good luck to ya! the fluke is my number one favorite softplastic to fish, and i fish it year round.

I love a Fluke but I don't fish waters cooler than 50 degrees. In February the water temp was already in the 50's here. I throw a Fluke every time I go out. Next outing I am going to try the double fluke rig or "donkey" rig. Hope you get some good information to share with us when you go out.

Throw a hard jerkbait... much more effective!

I have caught both smallies and largemouth on Flukes in water temps of 42 and up to whatever summer temps are. Slow down and you will be fine.

Get yourself some 1/4 and 3/8 oz Scroungers, fish it year around with the JR Fluke.

Just bought a couple of Scrounger heads and haven't really fished them.  I'm going to have to try this method.  Got some flukes and put them on and cast them to see how they worked.  Looked pretty good coming thru the water.  Nice wobble.  I don't see anyone fishing them down here. 

 

    We have lots of shallow water with a lot of wood....I'm worried they would hang up a lot, but the bill seems like it might let the bait come thru lots of stuff.  Will try them on points and flats on the bayou soon.

The tighter the wiggle the better they seem to work for me. The longer bill version goes through brush good as long as you keep is moving forward. Don't be worried about running deeper a slower it can cover a lot of the water column.
