Spring Bass Plastics???

Featured Replies

Last year I didn't get into bass fishing til late spring early summer, so most of the worms I have I bought for summer. I was wondering what some good plastics are for spring bass fishing? I heard that bass spawn in the spring, and lizards eat their eggs, so bass attack lizzards. So, I bought some sartruse lizards. Will these work, and what are some other good plastic, and colors to use? Please use newbie terminolgy as I'm still beggining. Thanks, Jared

Yes a lizzard will work, but what I have found most effective and almost impossible to fish it wrong is a weighless wacky rigged senko (see link below pics of a senko). I like the color, watermelon red the best.

To wacky rig it, just take a size 2/0-4/0 hook and stick it right through the middle of the senko so there are even amounts on each side of the hook.  Then just throw it out and let it fall.  Watch the line for twitches, or quick movements.  Usually the bass will hit it on its initial fall.  If not, I like to jig it a couple of times.  If nothing, reel in and throw again.  This can be a very effective technique.

You might want to try a tube bait as well.  They work pretty good in the spring.  You can rig them either texas rigged or with a jig head made for one.
