Terminal Tackle Storage

Featured Replies

I own an Alumacraft boat, and the storage areas have slots that are built to hold a Plano 3600 box in each slot.  The problem with the Plano boxes is that when they are loaded with my terminal tackle they do not prevent the tackle from mixing.

I have searched and I have not been able to come up with a quality box that would fit in the slot.  Does anybody have any creative suggestions on how to store terminal tackle?

It may seem like a silly question but I am sick of reorganizing hundreds of different hooks, weights, swivels, beads etc.

I use Falcon Terminal Tackle boxes now. They are so-so I don't love them for what I paid for it. I will say that they don't mix though. ON my old 3600 boxes I went to the Arts/crafts section in Wally World and got some adhesive backed magnets and put them at the bottom of each little hook tray. They work great for hooks I put about two in each section to hold the hooks in place.

That's what I did, it worked pretty good but I had a ton of extra room in my 3600s that's why I went with the Falcons

Sure, adheasive backed sheet foam, about 1-2mm thick; put it in the lid, "wall-to-wall" to act as a gasket and keep everything in it's proper place. Fly fishers do it in thier flyboxes to keep tiny flies from migrating from one slot to another.

My teenage daughter suggested the same thing you did Adam.  She suggested putting craft foam on the lid.  I used the foam and duct tape to hold it in place.  Worked perfect.

Now my storage containers are all color coded and very pretty when looking at the top.  ;D

I just saw  "Field and Stream" boxes at dicks where the dividers come all the way to the lid - keeping everything in its place

I will keep my eye out for those.  I have a Dick's opening in the next month or so that is just down the road.

I also had the same problem with my boxes.  A friend of mine used a thin piece of carboard cut to the shape of the box.  It works great and is very cheap.  Just place the material between lid and spaces for tackle.  It may not be the most professional but it works great and is very cheap and easy to do.  Just an idea.

I've started putting my hooks & sinkers into 2x3" ziplock bags (eyes at the bottom of the bag).  I got them from Michaels in the bead section.  I find it helpful because I can lable them with a Sharpie.  Once in the bags, they don't shift much within the box.

One word FALCON

I love mine but hate the latches they seem really cheap to me, but I do like the inside storage on them

i have the flambeu (?sp) zerust boxes and dont have this issue at all. and my stuff doesnt rust.

another idea that ive been doing lately is taking rattletrap boxes and putting my hooks in them. they fit easily into my tackle tray there and i can label the size of the hook and other things right on the box with a sharpie.

works like a charm.

fwiw i use a 3700 size box for my terminal tackle and recently weighed it and it goes about 9 lbs. lol.  its stuffed!  but organized.
