Fishing Trip Suggestions

Featured Replies

Hey guys i know its been a long time lol i dont know if anyone even remembers me.  But summer vacations coming up and we go on a fishing trip usually every summer, but this time we are in a rut because we dont know where we want to go.  We usually go to Clear Lake and its always fun, but the last couple times we have gone it has been mediocre.  The farthest we will probably go is a state out, so Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, etc.  Our suggestions so far:

Clear Lake , CA (Not completely off the list, but we would like to try something else)

Lake Havasu, arizona

Lake Shasta, CA

Umpqua River, Oregon

These places all sound pretty good. shasta is a lot like the lakes we reguarlly fish here (New Melones, Don Pedro), Havasu looks like fun with the stripers and all, and the Umpqua River looks like a blast for smallies.

So please help us out, give us some input or new suggestions,

Thanks

seems we do the same thing in the summer and last year not quite a bust at clearlake but the alage was enough to drive ya nuts..shasta is a nice trip, nice fishin and eagle watching but do not go on a holiday weekend the lake is full of boats and lice..if you camp and go to shasta do not stay on the west side as that is were the railroad tracks are located and the horns blow at all hours of the night as the trains cross the bridge.

I used to take the family up to Shasta for a weeks vacation.  We'd stay at the Tsasdi Resort on the Sacramento River arm of the lake.  Great fishing for numbers of spots and smallies, and I even booked Gary Miralles of Shasta Tackle for a trout / salmon trip.  Those 3lb trout we caught BBQ'd up nicely!  Very nice cabins with everything you'd need and a 30 minute drive into Redding to go to a restaurant or a movie......

I do think the Umpqua River for numbers of smallies sounds pretty good as well.  Sounds like you and the family are in for a great vacation where ever you decide to go!  JB

8 th year going to the Lighthouse Marina on Brannan Island for me. Clear lake has been nuts lately. Oroville has some great floating and boat in sites. Bullards Bar is always good. Just some suggestions .

I might be late on this one but Bullards Bar is a amazing spotted bass fishery. It's not uncommon to have 25-30lbs of spots. Nice setting also. As far as the camping boat in sites are available but the other camp ground is a about a mile and a half from the lake.

The Umpqua can be pretty insane for Smallies!  They aren't all huge but that river produces some big numbers!

clear lakes been great since spring but the alge is coming out. you could spend a whole week at the delta and never fish the same spot twice. plenty of places to camp

also, berryessas been hot, last three tournoments have had been won with 23-25lbs. all the camp sides are back up and running too

Ya when we fish clear lake it's usually in the end of spring to early summer. I know that later in the summer it can get pretty bad with algae lol

And it's funny that you guys mentioned Bullards bar because right before I came on here like a week ago that was a suggestion my dad brought up
