Lake Michigan Alabama Rig

Featured Replies

I understand the whole 2 pole 2 hook illinois regulation but I cannot find if Lake Michigan is 2 pole 2 hook. The dnr doesnt have anything on their website. I feel like it is ran by a bunch of morons most of the time. Does anyone know what the regulation is ? I want to mess around with an alabama rig in the harbors.  FIshing in Chicago **

Doesn't it depend on what state you are in? or is there a seperate governing body for the Great Lakes? I would imagine if you in a harbor in IL, you are subject to IL laws/regulations. I am ready to be wrong, though.

Lake Michigan IL section is not included in the 2 hook per line regulation. The bass creel limit is 1 fish over 21" per day. Page 21 http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/fishing/Documents/IllinoisFishingInformation.pdf

Makes sense now. I looked at the other lakes and a few had the 2 pole regulation, I guess I can throw a 5 hook rig then. Tomorrow will be interesting, hopefully I can catch one on it.

The Alabama Rig is Legal  in lake Michigan in chicago/ illinois. The reason is because Lake Michigan is not a 2 hook lake. I had some guy try and tell me this wasnt the case when I was fishing but I had already confirmed the law with my boss. Also the reason it isnt 2 hook is because it would make power lining illegal and many people use power lines and trot lines in the lake.
