Glx Application Help Cr722 & Bcr803

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have two new (to me) rods coming....and need some help on application.  From reading, it appears the BCR803 is a great T-Rig/light Jig Rod, but I can't find out too much on the CR722.

I have a NRX803 for my lighter T-Rigs, and rarely fish Jigs....so I'm thinking 3/8 Spinnerbait for the BCR803.  Does anyone have experience with that application?

The CR722 seems like it would be a good popper rod....but I'd love to be able to use this to throw unweighted plastics / light spinnerbaits under docks (love the 6' length), but I'm concerned about this rod having the power to get a good set and bring them out.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

Any other ideas?   I really didn't need either of these, but they were such good deals, I couldn't pass them up.

The GLX 803 in my experience is quite a bit faster than the NRX and every bit as sensitive. I found it to be a pretty good spinnerbait/swim jig rod, though I like the NRX a little better for the same application. Overall, it's really gonna serve you well with single hook baits in the 3/16 to ~1/2 oz range. I haven't a clue about your other rod, but I'm sure someone will chime in on it.

I would not worry about the 722 having enough backbone on a hook set. That GLX is a great little stick for getting into tight places and will do the job you want it to.

Great, thanks to you both!  I appreciate it.

I've owned both. Still have one of my GLX BCR803's. I also have all the 3 power NRX casting sticks. The BCR is a great bottom contact stick, but the tip is not as flexible as the NRX. I'd reverse what you want to do and use the NRX for the moving baits and the BCR for jigs and rigs, if I had to choose.

The 722 GLX was never one of my favorite sticks. It was just too short for my tastes and it never really found a home in my lineup. But I do read posts where some folks love it, so hopefully it'll work for you.

I have both of these rods. I use the BCR for T-Rigs, jigs and spinnerbaits. I really like the CR722 for Smaller T-Rigs, topwater and jerkbaits. Actually the 722 is my favorite rod.
