I've done a couple of things to my canoe to make it more fishing freindly.

I got an idea from another site to use retractable dog leashes for my anchors.  I got 2 24' leashes, one for the front and one for the back.  I've tested it out a couple of times and it works pretty well.  It was $5.99 each for them and I had the 5# dumbells kicking around as well as the rope I used to attach them to the leashes.

Today, since it was raining and about 40, I started on outriggers.  The crosspiece is 5/4 hardwood that is held on by a couple of bolts with washers that grab the gunwhale.  Those are adjustable flag pole holders that the pvc outriggers are in.  I used 2.5' of pool noodle on each side.  I haven't glued it up yet because I want to see if that's going to be enough noodle on each side.  I've also heard of people using floats for lobster traps which is another option.  I had the hardwood and the other pieces were about $30.

Nice! Bet you got the $5.99 24' leashes at Harbor Freight!

I picked one up earlier today to replace a 16' retractable leash I've been using...

You Guessed It!

Looks good. I like your ingenuity.

Be sure and seal that hardwood with some good spar varnish or something. Also, how confident are you that those flagpole holders will take the stress if you lose your balance and they need to keep you upright? Some kind of strap going from low on the side of the boat to the underside of the rigger pole would help take the stress loading in that scenario. Just a couple thoughts.
