Scotty Kayak Stabilizers ... Saved My Life ???

Ok ... so maybe it's a bit dramatic but it certainly felt that way this weekend when I took them out on their maiden voyage.  Let me explain.

My friends and I went on a trip up to Black River near Lake Ontario.  I generally do a ton of research and scout out an area as much as I can online but I did not have any time on this trip.  I decided to take the canoe and "wing it".

I check out the launch and I see a dam way off on the right.  I also see kayakers running around on the opposite side of the launch.  I saw a current but it was very mild and I didn't think anything of it.

I get my canoe all ready.  New stabilizers in place.  New anchor trolley kit mounted, rods, tackle, seat etc.  all perfectly placed for a day of fishing.

I put the canoe in and start moving towards this point I want to try and fish.  As I was moving towards it I begin casting my spinnerbait and within 3 casts I feel the canoe suddenly pick up speed.  I drop the rod and begin paddling as hard as I could.  It was a losing battle.

That strong current came out of nowhere it seemed.

The great news is that the stabilizers worked like a charm.  As aggressive as I was paddling I would have certainly tipped over without them.  Bad news is that I had to paddle sideways into some slack water and take out about 1/4 mile downstream and there went my day of fishing.

I will take that "bad day" any day over what could have happened.

Thought I would share.  Scotty Kayak Satabilizers rock!!!   :respect-059:

Yup - saved you from getting wet (or worse)....and from losing all that gear.

Ah, you didn't mention it, but you DID have a PFD on, right !
