Hi all need some help. Where can I go to order a new axle for my 1998 trailstar trailer? I went to replace a blown wheel bearing today and noticed the spindle is damaged. Unfortunely the spindle is not bolted on, it's actually part of the axle (looks like its welded on). So I need to buy and replace my axle but have no clue where to look. BPS while very helpful was not able to determine the axle I need, they actually need to see it. I dont want to risk driving it in its current condition. I tried searching online for a part number but nothing comes up under the trailer description. I contacted Tracker and they also were not able to provide me any help. I'm all out of ideas. Any recommendations?

As far as I know the axle just bolts on and doesn't have to be a specific one so long as it's heavy enough to carry the load. It's to say exactly without seeing your trailer and the axle that's on it now, however, if the axle is straight (not a custom bend to fit the boat) and doesn't have brakes it should be easy to replace.

If it is straight you just need to know how heavy of an axle you need (2000lb, 3500lb, etc.), the overall length and the distance between the spring perches.  You can also put a new axle stub on your existing axle.  You have to cut off the old one and weld on the new one.  I have done it and it was not hard.  As long as you are a competent welder and make sure to weld the stub on straight it's very easy. 

How damaged is "damaged"?

First thing to do is find a trailer supply buisness in your area. You axel is not spcific to just a boat trailer. Should be common to camper,eguipment,utility trailers and so forth. The springs and  wheel/tire sizes determine your weight capacity rating along with the axel. I would take the axel off  for referance and measurement when you go looking. Northern Tool company catalog or on line has a good selection of axels and hubs. Do a search on line for trailer axel companies. You will learn a lot just by searching the internet.

Tractor supply usually has several different trailer axles in stock.  Shouldn't be difficult to find one that will work.  No need to get the exact same axle.  Width would probably be about the only major consideration other than load capacity.
