I have a 16ft aluminum boat project, I'm working on getting it all fixed up. I took all the old nasty seats out of it and now I need to replace them. My plan was to take oak boards and carpet them. Will this hold up to the water well? Or should I choose a different wood? Thanks.

Marine plywood would probably work best.

How thick? I will have 3-4 seats, my brother has oak on his and it handled us standing on them and slamming down on 4ft rollers.

It looks like it only comes 3/4 thick, would I just use another piece of wood underneath to reinforce it?

Do you have a picture of the boat? I can't really visualize what your trying to accomplish. At first, sounded like you were replacing the wood bench in a rowboat. Now I'm not so sure...

Its a 16ft mirro craft deep fisherman. Theyre just going to be bench seats.

Teak or starboard would be best. Oak would probably work find also.

If you have the oak already, then I'd say use that. It should last plenty long enough, though teak and marine plywood are the usual materials. Starboard is cool stuff. You can do a lot with it.
