Fishing Cooler?

Featured Replies

Im thinking instead of a crate I want to add on to a cooler. Rod holders, tools that sort of thing. Would also like to figure a way to have somthing hold my Plano boxes also. Anybody use a cooler as apposed to a crate?

I assume you mean for a kayak? Why do you want a cooler instead of a crate to hold gear? I use a 70qt cooler only when I'm saltwater fishing, bream, or perch.... I use put it in the front of my NuCanoe and keep my crate with all my gear in the rear.

Sorry I thought I had put kayak, anyway I thought a cooler would be more productive than a crate since you can carry more, has a lid, that sorta thing. Maybe im wrong, I just was wondering if anyone ever rigged one up.

I use both a cooler and a crate. My crate has a middle section, and a top. I have my plano boxes on bottom, soft plastic in middle, with a top or lid that is locked down using a bungee cord. My cooler is behind my crate or up front depending how I`m fishing. My cooler is a 12qt. cooler.

I use a cooler on my canoe.  Go a find some pvc pipe and some clamps to mount it.  Cut the pvc to length and drill holes into the cooler.  Use carriage bolts that have a smooth rounded top and make sure to have that end inside the cooler so they wont damage whats inside.  A little bit of silicone on the bolts to seal it up and you have rod/net holders on the cooler.  If the cooler is large enough you could also cut some wood to fit and create separate compartments on the inside if you seal around the edges well enough.  Another trick is to find a cheap plastic cutting board that is the same size as the top (or one that can be cut down to size), and bolt it to the top of the cooler for a nice cutting surface.  I also had the screen for my depth finder mounted on the top of my cooler for a while and I loved the portability.  Your cooler options are as limitless as your imagination.
