Rod Wrap Substitue?

Featured Replies

I use Rod Wrap on the handles of all my rods.  I am now so used to it, that I don't like fishing a rod without it.  Well, I recently ran out and was hoping to find a more availible substitue.  I have tried Tennis Racquet Handle wrap, which worked ok, but I only found them in short precut lengths and don't cover much.  If anyone knows a place that may sell Tennis Racquet Handle wrap in long, non-cut, rolls, please let me know, because ideally that is what I am looking for.

I did do a search for Rod Wraps and found people suggesting Tennis Racquet Handle Wrap, but no one specifed where they get their tennis wrap from and if it is in a long continous roll.

Well, I just spoke with Steve (the owner of Rod Wraps) and he said they are ramping up business and will have Rod Wraps flowing again.  Since I called every tennis shop in the area and all grips come in precut length, I guess I will just stick with the original wrap.

Not sure if it helps but I was just in northern bass supply and they have them in colseout price of 2.99. They had a few left. Only thing is they were yellow and chartreuse. Not sure what shipping would be but give them a call if your interested.

Handlebar tape for a road bike.  Choices of colors are basically infinite, materials are Vinyl, Leather, Cork, Synthetic Cork, and carbon.  TONS of bike shops in Pittsburgh too.

Great idea.  Recently received a rod with the handle wrapped.  Now I want to wrap my cork handles to preserve them.  The wrap won't damage the cork in any way, will it?  I don't want sticky tape left behind.  Thanks.

Not at all, some tapes don't have adhesive on the back at all.  The adhesive is usually a thin (width) strip of what seems like double stick tape you'd use to seal plastic around your windows for the winter.  Some rubbing alcohol will get any gunk off.

If you dont mind working on  it a bit, you can use two of the tennis racket handle wraps and make it look like one. I have bought the three packs at walmart for about $3 and I can get 2 rods wrapped easily.
