Central Ok Here I Come, Thanks Af.

Featured Replies

So the Air Force has saw fit to PCS me to lovely OK. I will be stationed at Altus but more than likely live in Lawton and make the commute...blah. In either case have an old 90 Ranger that I will be bringing down with me from WA and intend to get as much fishing in as I can. So that is where all of you come in...with the where and the whats! I fish as much as I possibly can and will be looking for a small club if there are any in the area. Anyways enough of my rant..oh and I will be heading that way this Nov. so see you all very soon!!!

Chris

Welcome to Ok!  Can't really help you on where to fish, we are way north and east of you but I am sure someone will have some tips for you.

Thanks, I am clearly on the wrong side of the state when it comes to fishing but tons of great lakes within a few hour drive to make weekend trips out of!

There is a couple pretty good lakes right outside Lawton. I know there is a club or 2 out of Lawton also. You're right, some really good lakes a few hrs away. Welcome to Oklahoma.

You having fun in all this drought lol I'm from Altus, but I'm air force as well. C-130J loadmaster stationed in Little Rock. Mom and Dad said the drought's pretty bad and Lake Altus is waaayyyy low.

Welcome to Oklahoma buddy. You got a couple of good lakes around you. I personally like Lake Lawtonka right outside of Lawton. You can catch largemouth, but why I like it is because you can also catch smallies. Also another small lake I like that isn't to far from you is

Lake Louis Burtschi. Good luck fishing new spots man!

I grew up fishing Burtschi!  My first "intentional" bass was caught there when I was 14 or 15. :)  It's really small, but is only about an hour from you.

The lake nearest Altus (Altus Lugert) recently had a fish kill... which is too bad because it's a beautiful rocky lake.  An employee of mine swears there is some great fishing in the various ponds and small lakes in the Wichita Wildlife Refuge (no big boats, however).  It's also worth an hour drive north to Fort Cobb St. Park.  I spent every weekend there as a kid and it was killer for hybrid bass and catfish - I look forward to going back someday to fish it for bass.

Two of my favorite lakes in the state are less than 2 hours east of you - Murray, and Arbuckle.
