I've watched some videos on the subject and was wondering about the float itself.I've seen where pros use a small clip bobber to present the bait.

If the fish are a little deep, I suppose this might present a problem with casting...how well would a slip bobber work for this technique?

If they are deep, use a slip float with a bobber stop.  Set it to the depth you want your bait to sit.  Watch that stop!  If it stops dead before hitting the float, SET THE HOOK!
