That's a very versatile rod. You can use it for light jigs, t-rigs, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, walking baits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits...........

Try jerkbaits and topwater.

To me that is a reach. You can take a MH rod and try to push many applications out of them, but this rod is far from ideal for frogging and cranking. Its action is too fast for cranking, and it is underpowered and too short for frogging. You can throw jigs/t-rigs on them, but other models are better on it IMHO.

We could argue all day but that was his only baitcasting rod at the time and it worked for everything, not everyone has multiple setups for techniques. I had one rod and reel until I came to this site myself.

 

As for frogging, we fish for bullseye snakeheads more than anything, caught tons of those and many bass in the process. It works just fine and held up in South Florida slop. I have more combos and longer fishing rods than he had and he caught as many or more fish than I did on many occasions.

I didn't claim that it was not possible, just a reach. At one time I fished one rod to do everything as well, everyone starts that way. I have friends that will use his 6'0 Shakespeare and fish it for everything. The situation is not optimal, but it is sometimes what one is restricted to. The OP was asking for the best application for said rod. So I tried to focus my answer in that direction. Thanks for showing that video, it was fun to watch.

frogging with a short/stout rod in open/close water is easy and possible.  but i wouldn't want to bomb a frog 60ft into a lily pad field and try to haul out a 5lb+ girl.

 

MH to crank is possible but not ideal.  cranking stick are great b/c they load slowly giving the fish time to take the lure in...and absorb shock to keep the treble hooks from unbuttoning during a fight.  with a MH you'd need to pause 1-2 seconds to let him have it and don't put ANY pressure on the fish during the fight or ur rip the trebles out (loose drag too). if you like cranking just buy the right rod.

Nice Video, either way, I think I made a good selection and only paying $70, brand new online.  My stronger* points are t-rigging and top-water, mainly spook style baits, chuggers and buzz/swimming frogs.  I think this rod will be a great T-Rig and Walk the dog, open water topwater, applications.  Thanks for the advice guys!

 

I also purchased at the same time, on eBay, a NIB BPS Tournament Pro, 6:4:1, from Springfield, MO, lol.  I've never seen one and the specs are nice for the money.  I've got a couple BPS Pro Qs and love them, and from my understanding they are either the same, spec wise, or a notch above in the old BPS lineup. If you've used a BPS Tournament Pro, let me know what you think!
