Getting Adjusted To Reel

Featured Replies

I was informed that I had my reel on the wrong side on my spinning outfit. I am curious is there a way to get adjusted to this faster. It seems that when i try to reel that my right hand is causing the rod to bounce as i reel. I even notice when fooling around i had more control when attempting to twitch and pop my rod tip. My concern is that when I do get a fish on I will lose it because of my left had kind of chokes up while reeling. Any advice will help.

um.. there is no wrong side, its adjustable for whatever side is most comfortable for you... which side is your handle on?

Agreed, there are no rules in fishing. Put the handle on whatever side feels best to you.

OP said "reel" not "handle" was on the wrong side.  I can only assume he was fishing with the reel on top instead of on the bottom.  If this was the case, then he is now reeling in the opposite direction from what he is use to.  The trick is to reel moving the wrist only, not the whole arm.  Position the arm more to the side (versus behind the handle) and rotate the wrist so the hand moves in a circle with the point where the handle is attached to the reel body as the center of the circle.  Rod won't move at all once you get the motion down.

EDIT:  Okay, OP posted again while I was typing so I now know his original post wasn't  worded correctly (for me to understand).  :teeth:  Reeling method is still the same.  If you can't get it with a reasonable amount of practice, then switch the handle back unless there is a physical reason why you need to reel with the left hand.

I tried what you said new2BC4bass and it feels a little more natural and the reason I was wanting to switch was because I have more control with my right had working my so I wanted to switch so I could have more control withe the rod in my right hand and the handle in my left
