Mgx Owners

Featured Replies

O.K. MGX owners, how have they held up now that they have been out a couple of years???    Mine are still perfect

Mine is also doing very well. No maintenance other than clean and lube. Just as smooth or maybe more so than the day I got it. Fished it very hard for nearly 2 seasons now.

Take care of it by means of simple maintenance and it will last forever, not sure why everyone on here has problems with AG reels, I fish with a lot of people who own them and we never had issues and I have a lot of them. You have to take what you hear in a forum with a grain of salt. People abuse their stuff and when it breaks and can't get it repaired for free they will bad mouth it and blame the product.

Look at some of the photos of members boats, they are all junked up and they will be the ones saying " I never banged it or stepped on it, it just broke"  Good quality reels just don't break, not even Shimano.

I agree, a little cleaning and oil now and again and make sure the side plate screws are tight and these things are better than new.

I have had to replace the drag on mine. It fused up after a year of use. Besides that, it has been fine. I have mine professionally serviced biannually.

I only fished mine for about 3-4 months after buying it, upgrading the bearings to orange seals about a month in. The reel just never fit real well for me, so it sits below decks as an emergency backup now. And I've used it a couple of times in the year or more it's been in the backup role. Worked fine the last time I was forced to use it, FWIW.
