Mepps Spinners

Featured Replies

What Mepps spinners have everyone had success with for bass?  Any preference for smallmouth or largemouth?  There are such a wide variety of colors and styles, interested to hear what people have used with success for bass.

I've caught largemouth on a mepps aglia size #4 before.

On regular colors, Gold, cooper and silver, in aglia, aglia long and comet, as well any Back Fury, my prfered is with orange dots, dressed or not.

I dont know about the earlier Black Fury Spinners, but I recently purchased a Mepps Bass Killer kit(6 assorted  #3 spinners)

The Black Fury that came with the kit was very cheap. The polka Dotted yellow section on the blade was nothing more than a decal(sticker) and started peeling from exposure to the heat of the sun.I peeled it off the rest of that way. i wont buy any more modern Black Fury Spinners.

Mepps Aglia, Comet & Black Fury size 4 & 5

Aglia & Comet ---> Gold or Silver

Black Fury ---> Black & Yellow

The Black Fury is a Comet painted black.

I've had good luck in trout stocked waters with a #5 in rainbow trout pattern.   I've had more success with Mepps than I've had with spinnerbaits, although anything smaller than a #4 tends to be dink magnets.  They are also much less weedless.

I've caught them on all the aglias from size 2 to 5, and on thunderbugs and the old mepps weedmaster. An overlooked bait that does work.

I love mepps, awesome baits.  I normally use a #5, which one depends on the conditions.  Great baits though.
