Symetre Handle Too Heavy/no Friction?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, thanks in advance for reading.

I have a 3000Fj and there's a small issue with the reel. When the handle is in any position other than straight down (6 o'clock position), the handle doesn't have enough friction on it to keep it in place. Unless there is tension on the line, the handle just cranks/drops to the down position. Its almost like the handle is too heavy or something is missing that keeps the handle in place. If i turn off the anti-reverse, I can make it swing back and forth like a pendulum couple of times.

Unfortunately I’m not knowledge enough to know what could be causing this. I don't have an issue opening up the reel to check it out, but i would know what to look for. Need some help from the reel techs.

Thanks

Look to see if the reel has a friction ring on the front of the body, just under the rotor.
On the 4000 it is part number RD6132 it is the reason most reel free swing like yours..

What yr did you purchase it I have the schematic's for every Shimano reel mfgd from 1987 to 2005.

I have located all kinds of Symetre Fi, Fh, etc. designators but no Syemtre Fj designators.... :eyebrows:

It was sitting in my friend's garage in a clam package. I have no idea when he purchased it.

I found the schematic, will be calling shimano today for the part.
