Casting Rod Suggestion

Featured Replies

Looking for a 7'6"-8' casting rod, medium or mag-medium power (1/4 to 3/4 oz lure rating say), fast action; and here's the kicker- I want to spend no more than $70, prefer to spend less if possible. Sensitivity is not a big concern, of course.

Thanks for any inputs.

First I'll say you might want to spend an extra $30 and get a Falcon Bucoo. Love mine. AWESOME rod.

Now... for your original price.... Try a Shimano Sellus or Clarus. Don't know if any of the 3 I mentioned are made in bigger than a 7'6.

You can do it but you are going to be hard pressed to find a medium power in those lengths. The best one I could point to would have to be either the Daiwa Procyon 7'6" Heavy which is rated for 1/4 - 1 1/4 weights or the Daiwa Ballistic which is on sale for 65 bucks at TW right now, in that series you can get the 7'6" or the 8' but it will be heavy which is rated 3/8 - 1 1/2 I believe. I think the Procyon is more inline with the weight range you are looking for and both can be had for under $70.

Daiwa Ballistic 7'11" cranker (BLS7111MRB).  The action is actually quite fast though it's classified as a "Regular" action.  It's a phenomenal caster.  The TW July 4th sale is still going and the Ballistic is already on closeout, so you can get it for $55.  I really love mine, enough that I pulled the trigger on the 7'2" spinner as well.

Time to think about learning to wrap a rod? Plenty of spinning rod blanks that match what you need. You could scavenge guides from an old rod to save $$$$.

All previous mentions would be good. I would also look @the Cabelas house brand mag-touch rods. I'm pretty sure they have multiple lengths and powers and are regularly on sale for around $60-70.
