How to fish flukes?

Featured Replies

Well I have a pack of zoom super flukes in baby bass color. And I really don't know how to fish them. Do you add any type of weight also?

I like to dead stick them or walk them (either on the surface or subsurface). I'll use a keel weighted hook in current or if the fish are deeper.

Lots of threads on fishing flukes here at BR. Just hit the search feature and type it in. There's plenty of rigging ideas. Flukes are very versatile baits.

I fish them weightless with an EWG gammy hook. The 4" get's a 1/0, the 3" a 3/0, and the 7" a 7/0. Throw them out and let them sink to your desired depth. Give them a twitch or two, then let them die and sink slowly back down. Sometimes I give it one to three twitches of varying intensity, and vary the length of the pauses, from 5 seconds to as long as 40. I have most of my luck on them letting them sink and act like a dying baitfish. If you use light line you can fish fairly deep water this way, as deep as 10 - 15 feet.

You can do a lot of things, but you can't go wrong with a weightless rig and fishing them with twitches and pauses around shallow cover.

1.Weightless

2.On a jighead

3.On a Carolina rig

4.On a drop shot

I have caught on all these methods, but the Carolina rig was really on fire for a while on the outside weed edges.
