Well I brush hogged our hunting lease today.  I will be putting out some trail cams this next week to see what is running around.  I haven't had a chance to plant any plots this year.  I will be putting out corn and some other goodies for them.  Anyone else prepping?

 

Hung a couple new stands a few weeks ago, going to do bush hogging at my lease next weekend. I also pulled the bow out after a few months of not shooting, it felt good.

Aside from hunting some private land on my BIL's uncles farm, and his neighbors farms. We are going at it differently this year. No blinds, no tree stands, no shooting houses. We are going all bow all year. We are stalk hunting deep woods this year. No plots and no supplemental feedings. We got 6 total cameras out in two WMA and the Wilderness down here. Plus we can hog hunt and scout at the same time. So Bonus!

Which WMA's are you going to be hunting? I just got a bow a couple of months ago and will be hunting Oakmulgee and Cahaba River this year with some friends.

Cahaba River and Black Warrior. Also looking at Sipsey Wilderness, Talladega, and Bank Head National Forest.

I here ya man. I drug mine out as well. I'm just waiting on payday so I can give expandables a shot this year. Then I'll get more serious about practice.

our good WMA's are to far of a drive for me. I am heading to CO next year for an OTC elk hunt. I can't wait!

We will be hanging some new stands in 2 weeks and iv been shooting my bow daily rain or shine.

I Would love to go out west and do a back country hunt. We are doing miniature versions of those here. Least that's what the three of us are attempting to do. The closest wildlife management area to is is Cahaba. Its about a thirty minute drive from the house. All the others are around an hour to an hour and a half.

I know a couple of guys that do a DYI elk hunt every year in Co. They go for 2 weeks every year, and only take long bows to hunt with. They've only killed a couple, a cow and a spike, but they come back every year with an awesome story. They go all public land, and it takes them 2 days to hike into where they go and three days to get out if they get lucky enough to harvest an animal. It's definitely on my bucket list for sure.

Well I went out to the shed to do some tractor work around the house Sunday, and the friggin tractor had a flat on the front tire.  While I hogged the lease, I ran over some sapling thorn trees.  Long story short the tire is toast and full of those thorns.  It isn't hunting season yet and I'm out 140 bucks already!!!!! 

I hunt public land and try to never cut anything. My philosphy isnt to find them on the food its too kill them entering or leaving the bed. I tend to hunt overlooked areas and or places where lazy hunters just will not put in the effort. Not this past spring but the spring of 12 I did a ton of scouting. I found well over 50 new setups in multiple areas of the state and other states. I only ever made it to one when I had the right wind and time off so I have not done anything yet this year other than a little stand maintence.

 

I will hang three locons in areas where I can squeeze in quick hunts after work. My weekends are spent pushing the limit on how close I can get.

Well just shot the "All bow" thing to hell. I just traded a Matthews Conquest 2 for a Weatherby Vanguard 7mm. Looks like I'm gonna have to rifle hunt a few days this year. Drat.
