Trupp, create an outline of what the guys are writing to get a good over view of everyone's input.

 

Just leave out the brand names.

 

As for me, when fishing flukes:
7-foot medium heavy fast action rod

6:1 baitcaster

12 pound fluorocarbon line

Light pegged sinker or a weighted extra wide gap hook

Tip of tail died lime or yellow

 

Throw it out and bring it back any way you want.

Throw it in any wood you can find.

Throw it all over the place - anything goes.

 

If you have lots of boat docks and piers you may want to switch to a spinning rig so you can skip the fluke under the docks and piers easily.

I kill it fishing them weightless on the bottom like senko's (and settled down on top of weeds) with VERY light twitches here and there (almost just reeling up slack).  the slow/dead stick bite is virtually always on so i start there and experiment/increase speed from there (and its best in summer).  

 

next would be light switches like walking the dog keeping the fluke in the strike zone a long time while gently darting side to side; add pauses here and there so its a 'dying fish' that starts to sink to bottom but gets another rally again.  then try adding long sweeps during the dog.

 

the subsurface fluke bite, topwater action, or jerkbait/fluke bite window is smaller (good dusk or dawn, and in cooler water ie spring/fall; or when they are busting on shad etc). i always give it a try, even in summer, but don't have as much success as slow action. spring/fall is the exception

 

i like RoLo suggestion for weighed flukes:

"An unweighted Gamakatsu 4/0 Superline hook weighs 21 grains.

That's perfect for the decent rate I prefer (about 2 ft in 5 secs)."

All the guys talking about 4/0 - 5/0 hooks are insane. That takes away all the action. lol. A hook on a super fluke with the split belly only has to penetrate through a 1/4 of an inch of plastic. There's really no need for an ewg hook especially that big. lol. 

I use this rod and reel, though spooled up with 20# Sufix 832 and I use a leader of whatever 8-12# line I've got hanging around.  Mostly to make breaking off hang ups easier.

For hooks, I actually do it differently, most times.  I use a 2/0 Gam. Wide Gap Finess hook, and nose hook the super fluke.
