Is XT a dependable line? I have a 270yd spool of 20lb test that I want to use for smaller swimbaits on a MH rod- 1-3 oz. I don't want it to break, causing me to lose expensive baits or fish.

It's about the toughest mono I've ever used.

I like XT the most of anything I've used. Never used any higher end stuff but XT does just fine.

im not sure about 20lb. but i put 8lb. on my flipping and pitching gear and although it is stiff, its really strong line. I recommend a smaller lb. test simply because of the diameter of the line... for large swimbaits 14lb. should be fine.

It has a very large diameter for the lb test.  I think I read that it's breaking strength is like 50% higher than the rated test...I used 20lb and it was too big even for what I wanted it for.

I apologize for being wrong. How's this, it was a much springier line for its diameter and rating. It is tough line no doubt but IMO much less manageable than siege which I love

ive used the 8lb XT on a pflueger trion spinning reel for awhile. i handled bass on it up to 4lbs and ive never had it break on me. this year i ripped it off and put on 6lb sufix siege though, but not because there was a problem with the XT, it was just time to change it after 3 years and i wanted to go smaller. yes it lasted 3 years and couldve made it through another year. yet some insist they need to change lines every trip out, must be nice to waste all that money...

3 years? That is pushing it a little. I havent found any mono that was even any good after a year and a half. Always turns cloudy and gets brittle.. 

 

I change about every 2 weeks. With all the times I break off, change baits, and get nicks in the line I loose the ability to make long casts and have to re-spool. However, I do not use a full spool of line... I only spool up about 50-60yds at a time.
