mono or flouro for money minnow????

Featured Replies

alright i've had my minnows for quite a while now, and i havent had much action on them at all. for the most part i've thrown it on my 6'6 med hvy all star rod pinnacle reel with 14lb xps flouro. is this a good line and rod choice???? i use a 5/0 weighted gomakatsu hook as well.  also how should i fish these minnows. usually i like to use them on points with rocks, or around sunken timber, i let them sink and try to work them kinda like a worm, or swim them little bit, but like i said i just havent had much luck, actually no luck. i haven't really committed myself to throwing them all that much, i find myself going to a wacky worm or rattle trap instead. i'm open to any suggestions.

I throw them around milfoil on guntersville but, they will catch fish around hard cover as well. I have done better just keeping a steady retrieve but, I do keep it between the surface down to about 1.5' under on the retrieve.

I throw a gamakatsu weighted superline hook (6/0) with the screwlock......1/4oz. model. I have found that this weight keeps the bait running nice and straight and won't let it plane off when reeling close to the surface. I throw it on a 7'6'' kistler flipping stick with braid. If I was going mono or flouro I would go with 17-20lb test. Hope this helps

I throw them on braid, gamakatsu weighted spring lock hooks.  Usually more of a stop and go to steady retrieve.  Since they are weedless I throw them on weed edges, above the weeds etc.... I just get sick and tired of gluing them back together after the pike and pickerel have a go at them.

good info thanks guys...  i've got a med hvy rod with braid already set up so ill give it a go.

Which size are you using? I have more luck with the smaller swims (I usually throw a 4.5 inch). I have also found darker colors to work better too.
