Depthfinder - Portable Or Regular One?

Featured Replies

I always remove my depthfinder because my boat sits outside, and I'm wondering if I'm better off with a portable one? I recently bought the Garmin 150, and I'm wondering if I should return it. What would you guys do? Thanks.

If you just have the one boat I'd stick with what you have. If you are constantly moving it from one boat to another then the portable would be a better idea.

Any unit can be a portable unit. It only takes a power supply, transducer mounting, and a carrying case.

I have 4 sonar units on my boat, and I remove them after I get off the boat ramp and they go back on just before launching.

I have Lowrance Elite units and they come off in about 2 seconds.  A lot faster than I can unclamp my Hummingbird 120 portable unit.
